Ibex Outdoor Clothing

Ibex was founded in the belief of the superior natural performance and properties of WOOL. We couple a natural renewable resource with technical innovation, inspired design, personal commitment and dedicated customer service.

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. - Coco Chanel

Rachel Zoe may make the big bucks dressing emaciated starlets, but who among us can work ridiculous bug-eyed sunglasses and tawdry fur vests into every ensemble? The only marathon you'll be training for is one that includes a bottle of pinot grigio and a block of your favorite Bravo TV programming.

For those who define fashion as something that prevents nudity while allowing us to enjoy life and look cute in the process, Ibex is beginning a series of "Your Personal Stylist" posts.

Do you have style or performance questions? Are you fretting over your sartorial options for a bouldering date with the hottie you met last weekend? Send them our way (info@ibex.com) and we'll set you straight on the road to fashion nirvana....for the real world.

Today's personal stylist topic: What to wear for errands on a warm, spring day.

The components:
• Ibex Seventeen 5 T ($85): Light as a feather and soft as a lamb, this merino wool t-shirt is shaped for a woman and ready to go directly from a coffee date with the girls to a head-clearing, hard-core trail run. Gorgeous colors will brighten any day.

• Ibex Women's Daisy Hoody ($85): Even warm spring afternoons can have a little bite. The 18.5-weight Daisy Hoody saves the day. The nature-inspired print on the chest is super cute, but we love, love, love the detail of the contrast-color wrist stitching.

• Ibex Slide Short ($79): Thank you for nine-inch inseams! This is the perfect, everyday length for a short. Organic cotton, a mid-rise and a wide waistband may make these the perfect pair of shorts.

• Ibex Recycled Felt Wool Bag ($59): Carry your wallet, grocery list and gym membership in a stylish bag that satisfies your eco-conscience.

• Great pair of kicks. I'm coveting these fun Mojito sneakers, by SCARPA ($135 from backcountry.com). Just like the rest of the outfit, they are built for comfort; show just enough style swagger and can multi-task for an impromptu hike.

Have a question? Send us your style conundrums (info@ibex.com). While we only claim to be experts on merino wool, natural fibers and outdoor chic fashion, we'll gladly respond to whatever is on your mind.

Care and Handling of Wool

Mud season is nearly upon us. While that means longer daylight hours and warmer days, it also means sloppy trail runs and dirty paw prints from excitable pups.

Amidst the dirt and sweat of playing and living, Ibex wool is surprisingly easy to care for. Common sense warning: follow the care label in each garment. Beyond any (and few) special instructions, here are the basics to keep your Ibex wool sweet smelling and long lasting.

Wash with a mild detergent or soap. We recommend Seventh Generation laundry products, Ivory Snow, and Ecover Delicate Wash. It's a straightforward wash-and-wear strategy. Most wool garments should not be tumble-dried; rather, lay them flat and away from direct heat.

If you want to go the extra mile, you can also:

Empty your pockets. Sounds a bit ominous, but it's well intentioned. Wool is a natural fiber that can stretch. Dump your pockets at the end of the day to prevent sag over time. (And who doesn't want to prevent 'sag over time,' really?)

Air it out to help rid your garment of ambient stench, like campfire smoke or the sweet smell of bacon.

Brush your clothes. Why not? When your grooming Fido, give yourself a little brush as well to shake out dust.

Keep 'em wrinkle free (if you care, that is). Ibex clothes are designed for performance and fashion. If your occasion calls for the latter, lightweight merino wool can be ironed with a low heat setting and a damp towel buffer. Woven pieces can be hung in a steamy bathroom as you shower. Does it get any easier?

Moth-prevention. If you live in an area where moths or other insects are a problem, take extra care before storing your wool for long periods of time. Just remember SEW.
• Sun is your friend, because it is the enemy of moths. It may be politically incorrect for us to "lay out" anymore, but it does wonders for your wool.
• Extreme temps - á là the freezer or a hot box - will kill insect larvae.
• Wash your stuff (and dry it thoroughly in the sun) before storing.

In the immortal (and nearly illiterate) words of Christina Aguilera, let's all go out and get a little dirrrty. We'd love to hear about your favorite mud season activities.
