Cape May - New Jersey

Fishing Report - Cape May - New Jersey - 6/22/2008
Report: We fished in Jim Bait and Tackle and Hinch's Marina Off the HOOK Shark Tournaments this past weekend and only managed two small Makos. We did find all the bluefish you would want in the 10 lb range but they were all 60 miles SE of Cape May in the area of the Hot Dog along the 30 fathom line.

We also fished in the deep of the Wilmington Canyon looking for a large Mako that we felt might be feeding on yellowfins and squid but this area produced nothing for us also.

We feel the bigger makos all moved north a few weeks ago when the water warmed up overnight into the 70ís and chases the bigger makos north literally overnight. We are done sharking except in the canyons at night when we do overnight trips. The big news is the awesome day troll bite on Yellowfin Tuna happening right now. There is no telling how long the good eddie of good water will stay around but if it does we will be going everyday weather permitting starting around June 25th. We will be doing overnight trips along with day trolling trips and it will depend on what our customers prefer. The best bite has been late in the afternoon and early am and some boats we know caught up 30 or more tuna trolling the past few days. By the time this report is published the bite may have disappeared and we will not go unless there is a good piece of water in one of local canyons that we feel holds tuna. We also found tons of sand eels on one of the local bluefin hot spots yesterday while shark fishing so we except to see the bigger bluefin up to 100-150 lbs show up any day now within 40-60 miles of Cape May. We know the smaller ones up to around 50 lbs are now on some of the local hills 30-40 miles from Cape May. If you are a single, small party or regular 6 person group and want to get out right away we are offering early season discounted rates through July 6th on our new 55 Hooked Up II. We can reach any local canyon in 2 hours or less with the honest 30 knot plus cruise so long boat rides are not an issue with our boat. Call (609) 425-1970 or e-mail us at cavemansportfishing.com
